Music & Lyrics by Katie Strand
Katie Strand started singing and performing at age 3. Her favorite songs to perform were "Tomorrow" from Annie and "Somewher Over The Rainbow." Strand simultaneously fell in love with singing and movies/stories! Mama Strand sang and played piano the whole time she was pregnant and had a business teaching piano out of their home. Katie began piano lessons at age 5 and writing songs at age 12. At age 15, Katie was accepted into the Minnesota Center for Arts Education (Arts High, now called The Perpich Center for Arts Education) in Minneapolis, Minnesota... home of Prince!
In 1997, Katie moved to San Diego and played all the local music clubs as a singer, songwriter, playing piano or guitar and singing her original music (and weaving in some cover songs). In San Diego, Katie met one of her favorite people and collaborators, Augie Alexander, producer/engineer on Strand's independent debut album in 1999, Catalyst.
From 1999 to 2008, Katie Strand recorded 4 original albums with a variety of talented collaborators. From 2009-2017, she started producing her own music with the help of her late partner Marcus Lovemore, but publicly released only a handful of songs.
It was kind of a gestational and explorational period in her creative life.
The Widow Lovemore is Katie Strand's project sharing the story of her beloved partner of nine years Marcus Lovemore's transition. The Widow Lovemore weaves original music, and a few cover songs into the remarkable story of Marcus Lovemore, his transcendence and Katie's experience caregiving and being medical advocate and doula for
Marcus Lovemore until his death in 2017.
